On Pessimism

I don't know why are people against pessimism (In fact there is this whole self-help industry convincing people to be "optimistic" and "positive").

It's probably the best thinking I have ever learned and adopted.

If you are pessimistic and only think about the worst, even the tiniest improvement feels like a huge bonanza for you.

You believe that you are not important to your company and your work is menial and trivial. One day your boss decided to increase your salary for 200 bucks. It feels amazing!

You think you don't deserve anyone's love, then a random guy/girl came to you and told you that he/she likes you. Greatest surprise ever!

You think you take bad photos or write bad essays not worth being appreciated by anyone. For years, the essays and photos that you posted online always receive 0 likes and 0 comments. But you don't care, cause you are doing this for yourself. Then suddenly, 5 people came and said that your photos/essays are so beautiful. Boom! You immediately feel that you are a celebrity.

In reverse, people who always hope and covet "the best' end up horribly miserable, because almost everything falls short of what he/she desires.

A person who always thinks about multi-billion businesses will always feel that he is a failure, even when he has consistent monthly paychecks and he is healthy.

A person who always thinks about her dream guy will always feel unloved, even when there are lots of "ordinary" boys showering her lots of love everyday.

A person who always thinks about being smart will always live in the fear of being wrong and being laughed by other people.

The best things, being the best on the peak, will certainly only become worse.
The worst things, being the worst, by definition, can't help but will only get better.

If your mind only contains "the best", then everything in front of you feels gruesomely unsatisfying.
If you mind only contains the worst thing, then even the most ordinary thing in front of you feels stunningly magical.

After all, happiness is inversely proportional to desire. And isn't happiness what we all want?

Be negative, be pessimistic. Pessimism rocks.
